To the Graduating Class of 2013
A glorious day awaits! Your Commencement day!
It marks so many important achievements.
It signals your place among elite company, those 25% of educated men and women in our country who have earned a baccalaureate degree.
It is the culmination of the great promise you brought here when you first enrolled. For this day is a testimonial to your ability and determination, qualities that all of you share, even though your individual journeys to this moment have taken so many different roads.
It is the fulfillment of the hopes and sacrifice of your parents and grandparents and your spouses, the support of your children and friends, and the commitment of your faculty and coaches, advisers and mentors, to your success.
It is a day worthy of great joy and dignity, a day which honors not only what you have accomplished but all those who care about you and love you.
Like all of us who will be on the stages greeting you, or in the auditoriums and stands applauding you, I look forward to a day of celebration and pride. We praise not only what you have achieved, but what we value as a community, as a University.
May your finals week go smoothly and your Commencement events and celebrations go safely and commendably.
